Have you ever thought that there was more for you to do in life? Something that nags you and pulls on you, telling you there is more for you to do? Listen to this nagging and pulling. I believe this is the gentle tug of a bigger life and deeper life. Maybe a more directed and guided life.
I believe the LifeMap Cycle will work for you. Your unique abilities, the talents you’ve been gifted with, and the people that want to support you and to see you flourish. I believe God has good plans for you. In Jeremiah 29:11 the Bible says: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
With all my heart I believe this to be true for you and for me. I want you to be amazed at yourself. Amazed at what God can do in your life and through your life.
The LifeMap Cycle makes this possible. Your dreams can become a reality. By simply asking yourself three questions, you can change your life, your world, and the world around you. Believe it. I’ve seen it happen. Wise decisions and accountability followed by the right actions will make it happen.
Step aside for a moment and realize how many people want to see you succeed. Keep stepping back, how badly do you want to see yourself succeed? When you pull back more you realize your desire to succeed is not just for you but for all those around you that you can impact.
The three questions (Where am I? Where do I want to go? and How do I get there?) open the door to possibilities that you may not even know exist. Here’s the deal, you can find the answers to these questions, you can find the support you need, and with the application of this cycle, you will make it happen. Here’s how.
Build A Foundation
The first phase is simply discovering where you are in life by answering one question. Where am I? You take this question and apply it to the 7 Critical Areas of life: Vocational, Financial, Relational, Educational, Physical, Spiritual, and Emotional.
It seems complicated but it’s a simple cycle of answering several key questions in each area and honestly reflecting on your life. With the LifeMap Workbook, I help walk you through each area and get you thinking about where you are in each. The Workbook guides you through several questions that you may not have covered before. When you are finished answering all the questions and recording all your thoughts, you will have established a base to build from.
If you asked someone, how are you doing in their relationships? Could they tell you the last time they did an inventory on this? What about their emotions, finances? Do you know where you are in these areas of your life?
After you complete this phase you will. From here you can then begin to answer the next question. Where do I want to go?
If you know where you are in life you can have a realistic starting point for where you want to go. Walking through Phase One gives you this opportunity. Answering the question to Phase One is a relief and release for you, it opens your heart and mind to be able to answer the second question.
You get to dream without hesitation, to dream without even having a plan. The second phase is the most fun and allows you to open your heart and mind to the possibilities. Letting go of the “maybes” and turning them into the “what ifs.” You don’t have to have it all figured out, you don’t even need a plan to make it happen. That’s later.
When you answer “Where do I want to go?”, you are setting a new direction for your Life. You are listening to the call God has on your life. The beauty is much of this dreaming can become reality. The LifeMap Cycle takes you through a final step to make your dreaming possible. A very practical process to see that God has plans for good and wants to prosper you.
So… How do you get there?
In short, accomplishing goals requires three key ingredients and after these three all the other pieces can fall into place. First, you need insight and wisdom to take the right steps. This is where listening to God and the wisdom of others around you help you to begin. Second, you need accountability. No one has accomplished anything alone. Everything we do and will do has been built on the shoulders of others. Third, you need to take action.
From the wisdom you’ve sought out to accomplish your dreams and the accountability to help you follow-through, taking action is the natural result. But the LifeMap Cycle doesn’t leave you hanging here. Moving from understanding where you are to where you want to go and to how you get there is a complete cycle. I want to see you succeed in your plans just like those around you.
Getting There Takes Weekly Planning
In the third phase of the Cycle, you walk through accomplishing SMART Goals and completing a weekly review. Many people have heard of SMART Goals and weekly reviews. But it is in the power of combining these with wise actions and great accountability that you will see great results.
The LifeMap Cycle has you turn your dreams into goals that are Specific, Measurable, Accountable, Realistic, and Time-Bound. Then you take these highly defined goals and turn them into weekly tasks that carry a time element with them. Combining these simple steps produces amazing results.
Here’s the reality, this process helps you to take what seems overwhelming and break it down into simple bite-sized goals and tasks. The old saying goes, “How do you eat an elephant?” the answer, “One bite at a time.” A little graphic, but cumulative wise actions with accountability will lead you to accomplish amazing things.
